House of 1,000 Coughs

Good morning everyone. As you might have guessed from this week's blog title, everyone in the house is sick, or at least, hopefully getting over the sickness. Mid week, we all started to feel pretty lousy. I'm not sure if it was one of my coworkers who came to work for a short while sick that I caught and brought home, or something else, but all I know is, we've all been pretty miserable. Kids are the absolute worst when they're sick. They struggle breathing out of their noses, and can't sleep at night. Luckily, she likes honey, which helps a lot. Over the weekend, Mia and I made a deal that we'd watch the Chelsea vs Southampton game together. Good lord, what a disappointment. I don't know if morale was low from their defeat to Porto for the UCL game on Tuesday, but the game was just a struggle. They fired quickly at 10' and got a goal off a free kick. WOO! The rest of the game, was a disaster. The back line was playing too far up, despite Terry finally starting, it was a rough one. The strikers were pressing hard, and we couldn't stop them. Falcao wasn't getting shots in and Hazard wasn't working the magic. Begovic was solid but needs a better back. Despite the efforts, it wasn't enough. Immediately after the defeat, Mourinho addressed the media as if he was fighting for his job. Honestly, he shouldn't have to. Yes, he's cocky with an ego, but he knows the fault is with his team, and has to figure out how to fix it. Luckily, there's an international break, so hopefully we can straighten things out. I refuse to right off the rest of the season, and hope Chelsea can come back next week better than ever. Costa will be back from his suspension so hopefully he can help motivate this very worn out team.

Later, Jill's former roommate Willa and her her hubby stopped over for a little bit. It was nice catching up and Mia had fun interacting with them. Sunday, Jill and Mia went over to hang with her family and watch the Bears game. Yes, football. Mia wanted to watch her Grandpa's fav team with him. Later, I found out she didn't watch very much, but enjoyed spending time with him. She even sewed some patchwork together. I was pretty impressed considering her age. Today, back to school. We were sort of conflicted on if we should send her or not. She hasn't been sleeping much due to constant coughing through the night. We ended up waking her up and I took her this morning. She didn't sound plugged up anymore, and said she didn't wanna miss school. I was sort of worried that if she missed today and doesn't go on Thursdays (last week) they'd give her a ton of homework to do. Not that she can't do it easily, but I didn't want her to get overwhelmed.

Hopefully this week, we're all 100% better. Being sick sucks. That's all for now. Thanks for reading

Sick Week

Good morning everyone. Wasn't exactly the best week over in our house. Actually, overall it was lousy. Tuesday night, I come home from work, and the entire house was quiet. Jill and Mia were asleep.. ok. I learned Wednesday morning they had fevers and were sick. Both fevers were gone Wednesday, but they left behind a nasty cold so I spent my Wednesday taking care of Mia. I hate it when kids are sick. I'd rather be sick then them. They're so miserable and hard to deal with. We made the most of the day together and worked on a nice homemade Valentines Day card for Jill (which she absolutely loved) and watched the Chelsea game together. Great win! It was also the home debut of our latest signing Juan Cuadrado. Not the best form for the former Fiorentina player. Hopefully he improves. Eden Hazard also recently signed a new 5 1/2 year deal keeping him in a Blue shirt till 2020. Probably the best news we can get. He's been real solid and hopefully will continue to aid in getting the team some hardware this year. This week, Champions League first league against PSG. Could be a really good match. I'll be able to watch a little bit of it Tuesday before work.

Thursday, Mia was supposed to go to her school's Valentine's Day party. She was still not feeling the best so we had to skip it. I texted her friend Hannah's mom explaining she was still sick. Mia wanted to give her friend a Valentine still, so we made one up anyways. It read "Dear Hannah, I love you so much. What is your favorite food? Mine is grilled cheese. Happy Valentine's Day. Sorry I'm sick. Love Mia".

Poor kid. She didn't make it to school Friday either. She's been doing better, just stuffed a bit but mostly good. Saturday, we spent the day together as a family. Made heart-shaped pizza and watched a movie. No dinner plans or anything for Jill and I Just family time. Her and Mia got me inside-out carrot cake cookies. Super tasty.

Sunday, nothing too exciting. They made dog treats for Remi after I left for work. We watched the Pens/Hawks game for a while before I left. Damn Hawks won and squeaked by with a shootout victory.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading!

The Road to Recovery

Good morning everyone. It's been an interesting few days, but I'll get to that in a bit. With Saturday and Sunday off, I had high hopes of a delightful and productive weekend with my two girls. Saturday morning I watched the 2nd half of the Chelsea FC game (because my NBCSports app wasn't working properly) Hazard secured his first hat trick, and a 3-0 win for the mighty Blues. That kid is incredible. Anyways, so that started the morning on a positive note. We went to the party store to get about 14 balloons (because its 2014) and went to go photograph Mia for her three-year photograph at the same location we did last year. Didn't work out at all. She was too cold and crabby to participate in this picture. FANTASTIC. Well, later we got some food in her (she may have been hungry) and we were able to shoot the photo in our backyard. Throughout the evening, I wasn't feeling the best. My stomach was hurting and I wasn't completely sure why. I had figured it was food related, but wasn't positive. We went off to bed earlier then usual, but I couldn't sleep.

I was laying there, clutching my stomach. Later, got up and threw up. Felt absolutely horrible. I was convinced the turkey meat in my pasta was bad. Went back to bed, still hurting. Heard Jill roaming around downstairs and met her in the hallway. Right after I told her what happened, I blacked out. She got my semi-conscious and told me I was out, then I guess I blacked out..again. This time when I came to, I could hear her crying "whats WRONG?? why is this happening??" THEN I blacked out AGAIN. Came to again, and she was just hysterically crying "do I call 911??" NO I'm fine, don't worry. She got my crackers and juice and I sat there in bed feeling like complete crap. My limbs and legs just couldn't hold body up. I had no food in my system and the blood sugar was dangerously low.

About 4am, Mia threw up. WONDERFUL. I was now convinced Mia and I picked something up from Play Group. Someone had to have been sick and shared it with us. So Sunday, we sat around all day. Jill took good care of us and it was just a delightful weekend. I've been on the slow road to recovery. Today, feeling pretty good. At work the last two days, I wasn't feeling the best. Stomach still hurting. Mia hasn't been wanting to eat much. She threw up Monday and Tuesday night. Wednesday night, finally didn't throw up. I was also able to get her to eat something last night too. Jill came home not feeling the best so I did my best effort to keep the kiddo with me so she could get some rest. Not 100% sure what the plan is for the weekend, but we'll see when we get there

Quick review of Metropole by The Lawrence Arms. Solid album. These guys never write "singles" or "hits". Songs just become the fan favorites over the last 10 years. This album just grows more and more on you, the more you listen. Some of my favorite tracks are "You Are Here" and "Beautiful Things". Lyrics are great. It's not as gritty as Oh! Calcutta which was their last album release 8 years ago. It's a bright, clever and well-writtened album that will be an instant classic. Hope they can make it to Milwaukee sometime.

Okay that's it for now, thanks for reading.
